FOOD: Artificial Sweeteners

Artificial sweetener use is demographically determined.  As of late I have noticed Sweet & Low missing in convenience stores as the Baby Boom demographic lessens in number and and buying power.

Saccharine: The pseudo sugar of choice for diabetics and the Baby Boom’s 1st. half; 1947-1955

Little white pills with a vague aura of contraband.

Sweet & Low:  The pseudo sugar of choice for diabetics, skinny women and all those who avoids sugar of the 2nd. half of the Baby boom, 1957-1962.

Little pink packets that looked good nestled among packets of sugar on restaurant tables.

Equal: The pseudo sugar of choice for everyone who avoids sugar born between 1965-1985.

Little blue packets that looked good in the windows of the large wallets that were popular before cell phones became ubiquitous.

Splenda The pseudo sugar of choice for everyone who avoids sugar and was born after 1986.

Little yellow packets that looked good contrasted against the brown trim of Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks’ condiment counters.
